How to Study the Bible

Out for a walk one day and thinking on Psalm 1,
walking along saying it to myself...

"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of the scornful, BUT..."

And this part, after the BUT, really caught my attention.

"But his delight is in the law of the Lord
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
He shall be like a tree, planted by the rivers of water
that brings forth his fruit in his season..."

By the river, four precious children and a big tree

And I said to the Lord, Father is it that simple??
Do you mean, if I meditate on your Word,
it will be like a river flowing into my life and it's streams
will bring forth the fruit of your Spirit, love, joy, peace...?

Yes. My Words are life.

He wants us close to him.
This book is how He speaks to me.
You fall more in love with Jesus when you're in this book.
John one, verse one says

In the beginning was the Word
and the Word was with God
 and the Word was God.

This book is Him. It's how I get close to Him.
This is where
He walks with me and He talks with  me and He tells me I am His own.

Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His mouth for His love is better than wine - Song of Songs

What if my husband sent someone else to tell me he loved me?
It's not the same. I want to hear it from him.

No middle man.

If God only speaks to us through a Sunday sermon
there's a whole lot of stuff  we will miss.
I want to hear His words to me.

Don't hurry it.

You'll miss the best if you try to hurry it.
Take it and chunk it, chop it, chew it, sip it.
Soak in it, until hurts are healed, burdens lifted
and your spirit rises up to walk in newness of life.

Don't worry how to read His Word.

Just do it.

I read the Bible like I pick blueberries.

Mom and I pick berries. Everytime I look up, she's off to a different bush,
picking just the choice ones, like promises from the promise box.
I sit there, at one bush, and try to pick them all.

It takes me about three years or more to travel from Genesis to Revelation.
It's not about reading to get through it.
It's about learning to savour it.

Like eating tapioca.
When I was a girl, I loved tapioca.
Not the one you buy already made. The kind you make yourself.

Mom says she doubled the recipe but it had to be divided by seven.
I never seemed to get enough.
This may seem gross, but I loved it so much
when I put it in my mouth I swirled it around
and then put it back on the spoon,
just so I could eat it again. :))

His Words are like that for me.
I like to savour them. To get all the flavour.

When I talked to the ladies in Bible study, I said
we have to be like a jeweller.

Take the jewel, hold it up to the light.
Carefully and closely examine it.

When it comes to the Word of God, do the same.
Take the gem of truth, hold it up to the light of the Spirit and turn it.

 Ever. So. Slow.

Take each word, each phrase and stop. Look close.

Let the Word of God dwell in you richly.

I encourage you,
memorize His Word.
There is nothing, that will do for you
what memorizing God's Word will do.

If you're  reading and some verse grabs a megaphone,
stop, look deep and listen.
Let it sink down into your ears

OR
some verses are just worth memorizing.

I haven't found it to hard to memorize but when it comes to keeping it there,
you need to REview, reVIEW and REVIEW.

You might say, I can't  memorize
but if I offered $1000 a verse....?

The law of His mouth is better unto me
than thousands of gold and silver.

Pray for hunger and desire to read His Word.
And then read it
until the day dawns and the daystar rises in your heart.

Jesus is the bright and morning star
and He will fill your soul.
